New Resources
The Library is pleased to bring you a rich collection of electronic resources. For 2011, we have subscribed to some notable databases covering a wide spectrum of subject areas.
Bloomberg Professional is an integrated platform which provides financial and economic data for more than 100 countries spanning over 20 years or more, depending on the types of information. It provides information on equities, indices, bonds, funds, commodity ,currency, economic indicators, mortgage back securities, money market instruments and the relevant derivatives market such as forwards, futures, options and swaps. Users can access the database via a dedicated internet workstation in the Library.
If you are looking for journal articles related to communication and mass media, you may visit Communication & Mass Media Complete on the Ebscohost platform which includes full-text for over 440 journals.
If you want impact factors, citation counts or other indicators of how frequently current researchers are publishing in individual journals, please go to Journal Citation Reports which allow you to evaluate and compare journals related to science, technology and social sciences. The Library subscribes to both the Sciences Edition and Social Sciences Edition of the Reports.
Updated information on all aspects of worldwide occupational health, safety, hygiene, road safety, water safety and environment trends can be found in OSH Update.
If you want to look for industry and sector market statistics worldwide, or you want to get the demographic, economic, marketing or lifestyle statistics of a particular country, Passport GMID is a good resource to you.
Westlaw China-萬律 is a bilingual legal database containing more than 600,000 laws and regulations promulgated by Chinese government agencies since 1949 and other legal information of mainland China.
If you are looking for substantial data of financial market in China, you can go to WIND Financial Terminal (WFT). For Mainland China's macroeconomic and industry statistics, try WIND Economic Terminal (WET). WFT & WET are in Simplified Chinese. Users can access the database via a dedicated internet workstation in the Library.

Electronic Journal Collections
From 2011, you can find thousands more electronic journals of academic publishers available for online full-text access.
The Library has added to its collection: 50 SAGE titles on Management and Organizational studies, 80 Taylor & Francis (Informaworld) titles on Business, Management and Economics, 300 Elsevier (ScienceDirect) titles related to Computer Science, Business, Finance and Accounting. 800 titles on Science and Technology have been added to our subscription via Wiley Online Library.
In March 2011, the Library also took up the JSTOR Arts & Sciences I to V collections where full-text access is provided for 750 titles from their first issue to the most current 3 or 5 years for most titles, with some dating back to the 1850s.
To access the journals, go to Electronic Library > E-Journals & Databases > type in the name of journal or database provider, then search.

Wireless Printing in the Library
Starting from December 2010, Staff, Tutors, and Active Students can use their own notebook computers running on Windows to connect to the Library's Octopus-operated network printers via WLAN services.

The Library has purchased one more network printer to cater for the increasing demand of printing services.
Library users are, however, urged to respect intellectual property. Illegal photocopying or scanning of books is an infringement of the Hong Kong's Copyright Ordinance. Library users who attempt to violate the Ordinance might be prosecuted by the Customs and Excise Department. To learn more details about the Hong Kong's Copyright Ordinance, you may visit our subscribed database, Westlaw International or look for a print copy of the ordinance in Chapter 528 of the "Laws of Hong Kong" (Call no.: REF KNR1.9 1991) at Reference Collection.
Starting from 13 April 2011, OUHK full time academic and administrative equivalent staff, postgraduate course students and project-based undergraduate students are able to submit their Interlibrary Loan requests via the Library Catalogue and check the request status under their borrower records.

Resources Updates
From 2011, Academic Search Elite (EBSCOhost) has been upgraded to Academic Search Premier (EBSCOhost) where users are provided access to 4600+ (originally 2000+) full-text journals/magazines focusing on computer science, engineering, physics, chemistry, psychology, language and linguistics, arts and literature, medical sciences, or ethnic studies.
To access the databases, go to Electronic Library > E-Journals & Databases > type in "Academic Search Premier"
SourceOECD has been renamed to OECD iLibrary and the platform interface has been changed as well. The new platform allows users to make cross-database queries. Besides, there are options for creating customized tables and exporting statistics to HTML, Excel and PDF formats.
The Library subscribes to the following databases in OECD iLibrary :
i) International Direct Investment Statistics
ii) International Trade by Commodity Statistics
iii) Main Economic Indicators
iv) Monthly Statistics of International Trade
v) OECD Statistics on International Trade in Services

Social Sciences Citation Index
Social Sciences Citation Index (SSCI) provides author abstracts, and cited references in social sciences journals covering more than 50 disciplines. The database's citation linking abilities help users to discover not only relevant results in related fields but also emerging trends of a subject discipline or research topic. The Library has subscribed to more backfiles and users can now access the information since year 1980.
To access the databases, go to Electronic Library > E-Journals & Databases > type in "SSCI"

A recent survey conducted by the US-based consulting company Demographia reflected that Hong Kong property was ranked as the least affordable in the world and it costed more than 11 times average salaries to buy a house. (Hong Kong Standard, 25 January 2011). Overpriced homes in Hong Kong is always a concern to the public.
