The following notable resources have been added to the Library collection recently.

 

Emerald Emerging Markets Case Studies (EEMCS)

 

Currently, this new product has more than 200 peer reviewed case studies focusing on business decision making and management development throughout key global emerging markets.

 

These are all teaching cases. Unlike research cases, the teaching cases focus on motivating students’ learning, encouraging critical thinking and teaching objectives.

 

Case studies in EEMCS are categorized into different subjects (e.g. Accounting & Finance, International Business, Human Resource Management, etc.). You can select the subject by clicking the link under “Browse Options”.

IEEE Xplore Digital Library

 

Via the IEEE Xplore Digital Library, you can find full-text access to more than 150 journals, magazines and transactions from the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), over 1,000 conference proceedings and more than 2,000 IEEE standards with a backfile to the late 1800s for selected titles. If you are looking for materials related to electrical engineering, communications and computer science, IEEE Xplore Digital Library is the right resource to you.

People’s Daily (1946-present)

 

The Library has recently subscribed to People’s Daily (1946-present). It covers all the issues of People’s Daily since 1946. Browsing and full text searching functions are available. It is a valuable resource for China studies since People’s Daily reflected the Central Government’s view on policies and regulations, political trend and economic development.

SciFinder

 

SciFinder is a research discovery tool that allows you to access several databases of the Chemical Abstracts Service, American Chemical Society in one go. On the same platform, you can find journal and patent references as well as information on substances, chemical synthesis and regulated chemicals related to biomedical sciences, chemistry, engineering, materials science, agricultural science, and more.

 

Access to SciFinder requires an account registered at SciFinder within the OUHK network. You may like to read the registration guide for details.

 

 

To access the databases, go to Electronic Library > E-Journals & Databases > type in the name of database, then search.

Library Workshops (3 Oct 2011 – 24 Oct 2011)

 

Need to find set textbooks, reference materials for the new semester, or just want to sharpen your information searching skills?  Come and join our October 2011 Semester Workshops.  Some topics include:

 

·         Introduction to Library’s collections, facilities and loan privileges

·         Essential information searching skills when using Library

electronic resources

·         Hands-on practice for finding set textbooks, reference materials and past exam papers

·         Methods to access Electronic Library from home or office

Database Training Workshops

Representatives of the vendors will come to OUHK in November to give a training on the database and answer your enquiries. It is free-of-charge but registration is required.

Service Alerts  

User Education Campaign

 

The Library has launched a User Education Campaign from 3 October 2011 to 14 October 2011 with an aim to promote a quiet and pleasant environment conducive to user's research and study. Promotion leaflets having been distributed at the Library entrance in order to remind users to maintain a quiet environment.

 

Remember, the Library is a place for you to read and study. Let’s keep the Library quiet!

Library users are welcome to bring their own notebook computers or mobile devices to the Library for study. However, please be reminded to attend to your personal belongings. The Library will not be responsible for any loss or damage to personal property.

Latest edition of the Library Handbook

 

The latest edition of the Library Handbook (for Staff and Students) was released. The Library Handbook gives you an overview of the library resources available in Campus and Electronic Library. It also tells you what library facilities can be used in Campus library and the library services that you can enjoy. You may also find the Library Regulations there. Resources Updates

 

EBSCOhost eBooks (previously netLibrary)

 

From July 2011, electronic books (eBooks) previously provided on the netLibrary platform have been migrated to EBSCOhost. Users can now view and search over 16,000 eBooks purchased by the Library on the EBSCOhost platform.

ProQuest

 

The ProQuest and CSA platforms were merged to a new interface in July 2011. The new platform allows users to perform searches with pre-selected databases for a specific subject area, namely Business, Dissertations & Theses A&I, Education, Health & Medicine, Literature & Language, Science & Technology, Social Sciences.

 

The databases previously provided on CSA platform (e.g. Linguistics & Language Behavior Abstracts, PsycARTICLES, PsycINFO, Environment Abstracts, etc.) have been migrated to ProQuest platform. Users can now do a one-stop search at ProQuest for 18 databases.

Thomson One Investment Banking

 

Thomson One Banker Analytics (T1BA) has been upgraded to Thomson One Investment Banking (T1IB) in September 2011. T1IB is a web-access product. Users can search for company financial performance, news on deals and merging and acquisition, shareholder information worldwide.

The Library subscribes to the following modules via Thomson One Investment Banking:

   i) Deals module – Provides data of Merger & Acquisition, Bonds, Equity, and Loans worldwide

   ii) Ownership module – Provides global ownership data of over 53,000 stocks

  iii) Financial module – Provides financial data, including financial statement, key ratios, capital structure on over 70,000 active and inactive companies globally

Wisenews

 

A new search interface of Wisenews was launched in July 2011. Wisenews provides access to the news from about 1,600 titles of key newspapers, websites, magazines, trade journals published in the Mainland China, Macau, Hong Kong, Taiwan and overseas. Users can now limit their search by different regions and/or media types.

 

To access the databases, go to Electronic Library > E-Journals & Databases > type in the name of database, then search

DEHP contamination 

 

Food products produced by Taiwan manufacturers have been found contaminated with di(2-ehylhexyl)phthalate (DEHP), a plasticizer. It was believed that a clouding agent used in drinks has been adulterated with DEHP. The issue raises global concern because accumulated intakes of DEHP are cancer-causing.
