Upcoming Events Library Orientation Workshops (2016 Autumn Semester) Welcome back to academic year 2016-17! OUHK Library staff members are happy to see you all again and look forward to serving your needs. To start with, we would like to introduce to you our collection and facilities in a series of library orientation workshops. In the workshop, you will know about:
There will be hands-on practice on finding books and reserve materials, e.g. exam papers, during the workshop. You are also welcome to join our tour to Stanley Ho Library after each session of the workshop. Registration is required. Please select the session you want to join and click "Register" to enrol for the workshop!

New Resources New Databases The following electronic resource is subscribed to further enriched the collection of the OUHK E-Library and to facilitate your learning and research.

Resources Update ProQuest is a multi-disciplinary database where you can find full text articles on arts, business, health and medicine, history, languages and literature, science and technology and social science and also news articles on the news databases. The change of database titles made database names clearer and more descriptive of their contents. You may click here to see the full list of the title changes.
The Britannica is the oldest English-language general encyclopaedia, that is, a reference work that contains information on all branches of knowledge or that treats a particular branch of knowledge in a comprehensive manner. The online version, Britannica Academic, consists of a fully searchable and browsable collection of authoritative references, including Britannica's latest article database, Merriam-Webster's Collegiate Dictionary, the Britannica Book of the Year, and thousands of links to other World Wide Web sites selected by Britannica editors. With the new user interface, users will find it faster and easier to use with improved search capabilities.
Oxford Dictionaries, an English language resource offers quick search access to definitions of words, phrases, and idioms, with guidance on style and usage, grammar, and spelling, and Oxford Language Dictionaries Online, an electronic language dictionary allows you to search Oxford’s bilingual dictionaries to get up-to-date translation on Chinese and English, have been both moved to a new user interface. The new user interface provided enhanced design and clearer search function.
To find more reference resources, you may visit E-Library (http://www.lib.ouhk.edu.hk) > Resources > Databases and select "References" under "All Subjects". People’s Daily has been moved to a new user interface also. This Chinese newspaper database contains the complete run of the past daily issues covering from 1946 to today's issue with searchable full-text.

E-Library Features Update “Colour” or “Color”? “Peadiatric” or “Pediatric”? Have you ever worried about which spelling you should use when searching the E-Library? You may now feel free to use either British or U.S. spelling as our E-Library will retrieve results in both spellings for you in the update feature.
To refine your search result, you can make use of the limiters such as resource type, collection, topic or year. To define dates, try the enhanced date slider so that you can set the date range you want more easily.
When the search terms you entered did not return any result, you can either try to broaden your search or think of some other serach terms. The new expanded search results feature will try to suggestion similar items to you also.

Service Alert Self Checkout Service at Stanley Ho Library To check out the General Collection materials quick and easy, try our Self Checkout service. A Self Checkout machine is located next to the Internet Workstation area on 2/F of the Stanley Ho Library. Follow the step-by-step guide on the screen and you will see it's simple and convenience to borrow books on your own.
New Internet Workstations at Stanley Ho Library To enhance our service and facilities to readers, we have replaced all the Internet Workstations at Stanley Ho Library with new all-in-one PC. What's more, all the Internet Workstations at Stanley Ho Library and Ho Sik Yee Library are now installed with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote and Microsoft Office tools.
Completion of Stanley Ho Library Rejuvenation Project Notice any differences in the Library? New furniture, new shelving and new arrangement of spaces were in place upon the completion of Stanley Ho Library Rejuvenation Project. Hope you like our work and find the Library more welcoming and comfortable. We will continue to optimize the space and facilities of the library to make it a better place for your study and research. Normally, an item can be renewed four times in maximun. If you renew your books online renewal, remember to check the renewal status and new due date to ensure a successful renewal. Taking Care of Your Personal Belongings Leaving the library? Don't leave your belongings. Thieves target unattended property. Always keeps a close eye on your valuables and to keep them with you. If, unfortunately, you have lost your belongings, you may contact library staff for help, but the library will not be responsible for your losses. |
