Library Orientation Schedule for April 2003 Semester

Click here to know the date, time and place.  Do join one of the sessions to learn what resources are available in the Campus Library and the Electronic Library (E-Lib).  There will be demonstrations of using key resources and services in the Introduction sessions, and of accessing "OUHK users only" electronic resources outside Campus in the RAS sessions.

Service Alerts 

Table of Contents in the Library Catalogue

Table of Contents (TOC) have been added to about 19,000 recent English books. You can easily view the book records and know more about the book to decide to borrow it. You can also use the new "TABLE OF CONTENTS keyword" search option as well.

Go to OUHK E-Lib home>Library Guides>Finding Subject Resources>Subject Guides.  The subject guides contain essential books, journals, reference materials in print and electronic formats. They are good starting points for your study.  

Seat Reservation Arrangement during the Exam Period  
The Library opens daily from 9 am to 10 pm from 4th to 27th February 2003.  A seat reservation arrangement is in force on Saturdays and Sundays.  The Seat Reservation Tickets are first issued at the Library Entrance at 9:00 am. The remaining tickets, if any, will be issued at the Library Counter at 9:30 am, until all tickets are issued out. Click here for more details.

Reminder for Course Coordinators: Reserve Materials for April 2003 Semester
New reserve materials together with reservation request forms should be submitted four weeks before the Semester begins so that there will allow sufficient time for processing.  Please contact Ms. Kathy Chau at extension 6781 or e-mail: mlchau@ouhk.edu.hk for more details.

Resource Update : Newly Subscribed Databases
The following new databases in Electronic Resources have been available for access since January 2003:

WiseNews

Provides access to about 350 newspapers, news magazines, web news portals, and news agencies in the Greater China region.

BankScope

Offers detailed financial information, ownership, ratings reports, and the capability of in-depth peer and statistical analyses on 11,000 world banks. 

Criminal Justice Periodical Index (ProQuest)
Provides cover-to-cover indexing of over 100 journals, newsletters, and law reporters on criminal law, drug abuse, family law, and other related disciplines. Click the search guide to learn more.

　

Resource Update : Databases on new Platform
The following databases are available for access on new platform:

Current Contents (New Platform: ISI World of Knowledge)
Allows searching across all the products in ISI including Social Sciences Citation Index, and some Web resources selected by ISI. Search guide is available.

CINAHL (New Platform: Ovid)
Allows searching across all the databases in Ovid including MEDLINE and BOSIS. Click the search guide to learn more.

Environmental Universe (New Platform: Lexis-Nexis)
Includes Environment Abstracts and selected full-text articles from newspapers and magazines, US federal and state case law and agency decisions, and codes and regulations on environment issues. Click the search guide to learn more.

To access these databases, you need to have the remote access connection to the E-Lib set up property. Then, go to E-Lib home> Electronic Resources> Keyword Search and type in the name of the databases.

Resource Update : Database Upgrades

WilsonWeb, ProQuest, Ei Engineering Village and EBSCOhost have been upgraded to newer versions with enhanced search features and/or graphical user interface in the beginning of 2003. 

To access these databases, you need to have the remote access connection to the E-Lib set up property. Then, go to E-Lib home> Electronic Resources> Keyword Search and type in the name of the databases.
