However, proper copyright clearance procedures must be followed before we can reproduce and distribute copyrighted materials. Otherwise, we would be risking copyright infringement. Requesting permission from copyright owners before we use their material also signifies a respect for intellectual property rights which is of utmost importance in the academic world.
