Privacy Policy of Mobile Application HKMU Alumni+

Hong Kong Metropolitan University (‘HKMU’ or ‘the University’) respects the right to personal data privacy and is committed to complying with the requirements of the Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance (‘PDPO’).

The purposes for which data relating to the user of the mobile application HKMU Alumni+ (‘the app’) may be used by the University are as follows:

If the user uses the app for registering or logging in to the account, the University will collect his/her Alumni ID, password, and IMEI of the mobile device for identity verification and operation of the services.
HKMU will collect the IMEI of the user's device and IP address for compiling statistical reports, diagnosing problems with, or concerning, computer systems and helping the operation of the app.
The University requests permission to access the camera on the user's device to take and upload a photo from it via the app to be used in the e-alumni card, HKMU Alumni Association membership card or campus facilities access card, to enable the user to apply/use the concerned services.
If the user would like to apply for HKMU Alumni Association membership, please note that the Association, with the user’s consent, will use the personal data of the user for informing activities and services including but not limited to member benefits, events, talks and fundraising activities.
The University will not disclose any personal data to any third parties except as required by law or with the user’s prior consent. Certain personal data may be disclosed incidental to the operation of the app or to the following parties:-
a) HKMU Alumni Association, if the user applies for HKMU Alumni Association membership;
b) any staff, agent, adviser, auditor, contractor, or service provider who provides services and advice to the University in connection with the app or in connection with the activities and services of HKMU Alumni Association.
The University does not have control over any act of any third party, the privacy protection stated in this Privacy Policy Statement does not apply to the information which has been disclosed to any third party incidental to or in the course of the University's operation or provision of services. The University assumes no responsibilities on the privacy protection against such third parties.
Personal data provided by the user to the University will be retained for such period as may be necessary for the carrying out of the purposes referred to in this Privacy Policy Statement.
The user will have the right to access his/her personal data and have it corrected, amended or deleted. Any such data access request has to be made in writing and be sent to the University by mail to: Development and Alumni Affairs Office, Ho Man Tin, Kowloon, Hong Kong, or by e-mail to: alumni@hkmu.edu.hk.
The University reserves the right to revise, change or modify this Privacy Policy Statement from time to time at its sole discretion by updating this Privacy Policy Statement, posting or by inserting notices in the app to that effect. Please remember to visit the app from time to time to review any amendments to the above Privacy Policy Statement and their effect on the user’s use of the app. The user’s continued use of the app implies his/her acceptance to such amendments.
This Privacy Policy Statement shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of Hong Kong, Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China.
In the event of any inconsistency between the English and Chinese versions of this Policy, the English version shall prevail.
