Programme Description

Hong Kong is a cosmopolitan city which hosts internationally renowned sports events, and professionals equipped with the skills and knowledge to effectively plan, manage, organize, and execute such events are in demand. Furthermore, there is a need for athlete business managers with a thorough understanding of the training requirements and psychological development of athletes as well as the complicated business environment. The Bachelor of Sports Management with Honours programme is specially designed for students aiming to enter this professional field.

Programme Intended Learning Outcomes (PILOs)

  1. Integrate and apply various theories and concepts of management to identify issues, analyse situations, and develop solutions for complicated problems in organizational settings.
  2. Make informed judgements in view of the organization's business- and corporate-level strategies as well as ethical considerations.
  3. Reflect on new ways of thinking and make meaningful contributions as a leader and member in a team setting and communicate effectively.
  4. Command knowledge of the practices and activities of key aspects of athletic development and sports management.
  5. Integrate and apply advanced analytical skills to address issues and make decisions related to sports management.
  6. Assimilate and synthesise new knowledge in different aspects of sports management, apply it to solve problems related to sports management, and develop practical recommendations.

Programme Requirement

Students pursuing this programme must successfully complete at least 120 credit-units of which at least 24 credit-units should be taken at 3000-level and another 24 credit-units at 4000-level. Students are required to complete:

(a) 9 credit-units of University Core courses:

(b) 87 credit-units of Compulsory Core courses:

(c) 18 credit-units of Sports Management Concentration Elective courses:

(d) 6 credit-units, as necessary, from any English and/or Chinese 1000-level, 2000-level, 3000-level or 4000-level courses (other than ENGL 1101AED, ENGL 1202EED, ENGL 1101AEF, ENGL 1202EEF) offered by the University.

^ New course, subject to final approval by the University for presentation but likely to be available.

Students are required to complete 120 credit-units but they may opt to graduate with a lower qualification, Associate of Business [ABUS] (60 credit-units) after completing the required number of credit-units and fulfilling the requirements of the programme regulations.

Choosing the first courses to get started

Undergraduate students taking the BSMH programme in English are recommended to begin their BSMH studies with BUS 1000BED An Introduction to Business and Management.
