Dr. Jessie Wong is the Programme Leader for Early Childhood Education at the School of Education and Languages, Hong Kong Metropolitan University (HKMU), where she oversees a range of programmes at the sub-degree, undergraduate, and postgraduate levels. A dedicated advocate for children's rights, she serves as the Vice President of the World Organisation for Early Childhood Education - Hong Kong (OMEP-Hong Kong) and is a a SOLmate of the School of Open Learning, HKMU.
Dr. Wong’s research interests are extensive, covering early childhood education policy, comparative education, technology in education, and issues of identity and equity. Her work has been supported by two highly competitive Faculty Development Scheme (FDS) grants from the Hong Kong Research Grant Council (RGC), as well as funding from the Equal Opportunities Commission and the Quality Education Fund. Her publications appear in numerous high-impact academic journals, including several Q1 and SSCI-indexed titles such as the Journal of Education Policy, Early Childhood Research Quarterly, and Compare: A Journal of Comparative and International Education. Her research is also cited by the United Nations, UNESCO, the World Bank, the Government of Hong Kong, and other think tanks. In recognition of her scholarly contributions, she received the Gold Prize for HKMU’s Outstanding Research Publication Award in 2023.
In addition to her research and teaching, Dr. Wong contributes to the wider academic community by serving on the editorial boards of several Q1 journals and acting as a reviewer for numerous international publications.
Dr. Wong holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Early Childhood Education Policy and a Master of Social Work (Distinction) from The University of Hong Kong, alongside a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology (Cum Laude) from the University of California, Los Angeles. She is a Registered Social Worker in Hong Kong.
