Biography
Dr. Lai is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Education and Languages at Hong Kong Metropolitan University. Prior to joining HKMU, he was a Post-doctoral Fellow at The Education University of Hong Kong, appointed under the RGC Postdoctoral Fellowship Scheme. His areas of expertise include Cantonese linguistics, Chinese dialectology, and digital humanities. He is the co-founder and current Director of the Cantonese Read-Aloud Test. His public digital humanities project on Cantonese was honoured in the Digital Humanities Awards 2024. In 2022, he was named “Li Fang-Kuei Society Young Scholar” by the Li Fang-Kuei Society for Chinese Linguistics.
