Application Guidelines for IELTS Test Fee Reimbursement Scheme

In order to encourage HKMU full time face-to-face undergraduate students to enhance their English language skills, and to have their language proficiency certified by a widely recognized English proficiency test before graduation, students with outstanding IELTS (International English Language Test System) scores are allowed to reimburse their test fees through this Scheme.

Eligibility

1. You should be an HKMU full-time face-to-face undergraduate student.

2. You should be an HKMU full time face-to-face undergraduate student at the time you sat for the IELTS test.

(For example, John was admitted to HKMU as a full-time Year 1 student in 2020. He took the IELTS test in 2019 when he was not yet admitted to the HKMU. He is not eligible for the reimbursement.)

3. You should be an HKMU full time face-to-face undergraduate student at the time of application for the reimbursement.

(For example, Jason is a fresh graduate of HKMU. He took the IELTS test last year when he was a Year 4 student. He is not eligible for the reimbursement now because he has graduated.)

4. Your overall band score for the IELTS test must be 6.0 or above. The threshold for reimbursement must be within your study period at the HKMU.

(For example, Jamie took the IELTS test in 2017 when he was an HKMU full-time Year 1 student. He is eligible to apply for the reimbursement in 2020 when he is a Year 3 student.)

5. Each eligible student is entitled for the reimbursement ONLY ONCE throughout his/her studies at HKMU.

(For example, please do not apply if you have successfully reimbursed from the IELTS Test Fee Reimbursement scheme organized by the Student Affairs Office or the Language Centre before.)

Application

Step one: The applicant should fill out the online application form:

Step two: After submitting the online application form, the applicant should email one copy of official IELTS Test Report Form to asklc@hkmu.edu.hk. In the email, the applicant should state his/her full name in English and student ID number. Reimbursement will NOT be made if the applicant fails to complete the application as required.

Reimbursement Arrangement

The IELTS test fee can be fully reimbursed if the applicant has fulfilled all the criteria listed above. The reimbursement amount is equivalent to the prevailing IELTS test fee (fee for sessions from 1 September 2017 to 31 March 2019 is HK$2,010; fee for session from 1 April 2019 to 6 April 2020 is HK$2,090; fee for session from 7 April 2020 to 31 March 2021 is HK$2,150; fee for session from 1 April 2021 to 30 June 2022, fee for session from 1 July 2022 onwards is HK& 2,300, fee for session from 1 May 2023 to onwards is HK& 2,380 ).

Reimbursement will be arranged by batch every season (i.e. January, April, July, and October). The cut-off dates for applications for each batch are listed below:

The successful applicant will be notified by email individually regarding the process of reimbursement. He or she will have to follow the email in order to get the refund successfully.
If a student has completed the IELTS test outside of Hong Kong and paid the test fee in foreign currency, he/she will be entitled to reimbursement for the amount equivalent to the prevailing test fee in Hong Kong as listed above.
