Enquiries
According to the Statistics from Transport Department of HKSAR, the average number of annual traffic accidents from 2011 to 2021 was 16,043. There were 20,075 causalities each year in average from the same period. Some of these traffic accidents may need to be reconstructed to determine how collisions occurred using the physical and mechanical facts at the crash scenes, especially those disputes between opposing parties which may be resolved by a court.
Traffic accident reconstruction is the process of investigating, analyzing, and drawing conclusions about the causes and events during a vehicle collision. In order to reconstruct a traffic accident, application of knowledge in physics and mechanics to the event and proper method of calculation are essential. This programme aims to equip students with essential knowledge and skills to conduct traffic accident reconstruction.
Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of the programme, students should be able to:
Apply proper calculation on laws of motions based on different scenarios;
Explain the relationship among work, energy and power of vehicles;
Report and present findings based on different traffic accident case studies in an appropriate technical writing format;
Reconstruct the possible traffic accident scenarios based on findings from the different case studies.
Programme Features
The programme is unique in local market
Different traffic accident reconstruction cases would be shared by the instructor
The proper reporting format would be taught in class
Target Audience
Those who interested to learn how to reconstruct traffic accident
Those who want to be expert witnesses in this area based on their academic background and professional experience
Those have Science or Engineering backgrounds are preferable
