Building Information Modeling
(BIM) has been be incorporated into
the two-year HD programme in
Engineering (Civil Engineering)
to develop students' knowledge
in computer drafting with the
latest state-of-the-art drafting
software and tools. Students
will be equipped with the
technical knowledge and
analytical skills to become
professionals in the engineering
sector.
The School have acquired new
equipment to support the
teaching and learning. A new
STEAM laboratory is set up in
Kwai Hing Campus with 3D
printers and hologram table.
The programme aims to introduce students to the fundamentals of engineering and construction. Designed to comprise both theoretical and practical elements, the course will equip students with the necessary knowledge and technical skills in line with the latest developments in the industry and enable them to pursue a career in the civil engineering and construction sector as technicians, technical officers, assistant engineers, project coordinators or works supervisors.
Objectives
Upon completion of the programme, participants should be able to:
Apply mathematical, physical and engineering principles to work out solutions to civil engineering problems;
Conduct appraisal on structures in accordance with statutory requirements and devise solutions for structural elements to meet the needs of specific buildings and alteration works;
Assess properties and behaviors of materials, and their impact on structures, through laboratory studies and fieldwork, as appropriate;
Employ 3D design and modeling tools in construction development projects;
Evaluate the broader impacts of construction and infrastructure development on the population, environment, city planning, transport, and other sustainability considerations of the locality; and
Manage projects and contracts with awareness of legal, OSH, professional and ethical requirements as laid down by professional bodies and legislation.
Entry Requirement
Applicants are normally required to meet one of the following requirements:
Level 2 in 5 HKDSE subjects (including English Language and Chinese Languge)^ and preferably Level 2 in one mathematics or science-related subject or Maths Plus in DYJ, or equivalent; or
Satisfactory completion of Diploma Yi Jin; or
Satisfactory completion of a QF Level 3 Diploma or an equivalent programme, e.g. Diploma of Foundation Studies awarded by Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education (IVE) or by a post-secondary institution in Hong Kong; or
Other acceptable equivalent qualifications (including non-local qualifications obtained in or outside HK, or other qualifications/experience deemed to be equivalent); or
Mature applicants aged 21 or above, preferably with relevant working experience.
Applicants will be invited to an admission interview. Admission is subject to demonstration of aptitude and suitability in an interview.
Note:
^Applicants possessing “Attained”, “Attained with Distinction (I)' and “Attained with Distinction (II)” results in an Applied Learning (ApL) subject are deemed to have attained “Level 2”, “Level 3” and “Level 4” respectively in one HKDSE subject, with a maximum of two ApL subjects can be counted for admission purpose.
