Lectures will be conducted in Cantonese supplemented with English as appropriate. Teaching notes and assessments are in English and Chinese. Assignments and project works can be submitted in either languages (English / Chinese).

This programme aims at training volunteers and general staff of community museums and heritage sites as well as others who aspire to work in the museum sector and heritage site management work in Hong Kong.
Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of the programme, students should be able to:
Categorise the range of establishments constituting the museum and heritage sectors in Hong Kong by their nature of specialisation, functions and users, organisation and governance, management, funding and operational models and other special features;
Write a condition report for artifacts, propose methods of care for collections, and set up a collections data record system;
Plan and design educational programmes, exhibits and road shows fitting for the nature of the collections;
Interpret public history themes by engaging local communities in a shared sense making of places, people and stories;
Analyse operational aspects of museum administration and management and propose practical solutions to address the issues identified; and
Develop plans for the maintenance of facilities in historic buildings used as museums.
Target Audience
Those who are employed or volunteering in museums, heritage sites, art galleries and related cultural venues;
Those who are employed or aspiring to work in CCI establishments and tourism industry where local tourism and heritage is a major focus of their work;
Teachers of related subjects in HKDSE (e.g. visual arts, tourism and hospitality studies); and
The general public who have a keen interest in culture and heritage issues in Hong Kong.
Programme Features
The programme is in collaboration with HKYHA, therefore student may have opportunity to conduct practicum at Heritage of Mei Ho House;
Taught by local experienced museum practitioners; and
Student can be arranged to participate in practicum and gain practical experience.
Admission Policy
A sub-degree (AD/HD) or qualifications at QF level 4 or above; or
Other acceptable equivalent qualifications (including non-local qualifications obtained in or outside Hong Kong, or other qualifications/experience deemed to be equivalent); or
Mature applicants, aged 21 or above will also be considered. Yet, accepted students will be required to attain Grade B or above in the first 3 courses before their studying the remaining courses of the programme.

Assessment
To obtain the Programme award, students are required to have an overall pass in each courses of the Programme. The passing mark is 50.
Award
A “Professional Diploma in Community Museum Management 社區博物館管理專業文憑” will be issued by LiPACE to those who successfully complete the whole programme.
A “Professional Certificate in Museum Practice博物館實務專業證書” is a reserved qualification given only to students admitted via the mature entry route who are not deemed academically suitable to proceed to the last 3 courses (i.e. those who have completed but failed to attain Grade B or above in the first 3 courses). Students who do not fall into this circumstance are not allowed to exit with this award and they will have to complete the whole programme successfully in order to get the award of “Professional Diploma in Community Museum Management社區博物館管理專業文憑”.
