This programme aims at training early childhood educators as well as others who aspire to work in early learning and child care settings with children in Canada. The programme provides a coherent body of theoretical and applied professional knowledge, transferable skill development and competence in the field of early childhood education. Graduates from the two-year ECE diploma programme are eligible to apply to become a licensed Level III Early Childhood Educator (ECE) through the Ministry of Education of Saskatchewan, Canada for employment in group early learning and child care settings.
Remark: Please note that this programme will not lead to a Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) qualification in Hong Kong recognized by the Education Bureau of Hong Kong (EDB).

Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of the programme, participants should be able to:
Create developmentally appropriate curriculum;
Design inviting and effective quality learning environments;
Develop holistic programs that include early literacy and language, creative arts, numeracy, and open-ended play experiences both indoors and outdoors; and
Apply the skills in building relationships with children and families, community partners and other professionals.
Programme Features
The programme is in collaboration with Saskatchewan Polytechnic, Canada. Students will have the opportunity to obtain professional qualification and recognition of overseas bodies as well as to develop future career in early childhood education in Canada;
The practicum courses in the programme offer realistic opportunities for students to gain practical experience in early childhood settings in Canada;
Graduates are eligible to apply to become a licensed Level III Early Childhood Educator (ECE) through the Ministry of Education of Saskatchewan, Canada for employment in group early learning and child care settings; and
Students could enjoy full access to HKMU library and e-library, computer labs, learning resource centre as well as Saskatchewan Polytechnic's library resources.
Professional Recognition
Graduates are eligible to apply to become a licensed Level III Early Childhood Educator (ECE) through the Ministry of Education of Saskatchewan.
Applicants are required to meet the following requirements:
A. Qualifications Meeting the English Language Proficiency Requirements:
Grade
12 with English Language Arts
30A and 30B and
English Language Proficiency
(ELP) (IELTS 6.5); or
Level 2 in 5 HKDSE subjects (including English Language)^; or
Other acceptable equivalent qualifications (including nonlocal qualifications obtained in or outside HK, or other qualifications/experience deemed to be equivalent)
^ Applicants possessing "Attained", "Attained with Distinction (I)" and "Attained with Distinction (II)" results in an Applied Learning (ApL) subject are deemed to have attained "Level 2", "Level 3" and "Level 4" respectively in one HKDSE subject, with a maximum of two ApL subjects can be counted for admission purpose.
B. Options for students who do not meet the Grade 12 requirement:
Accuplacer test: (scores in reading and sentence) A pass replaces both the Grade 12 and English Language Arts 30A & 30B requirement (English Language Proficiency still required); or
Post-secondary success: A transcript with 15 passed credits from a recognized post-secondary institution can be accepted for the Grade 12 requirement; English 30A & B and ELP requirements still need to be met.
Notes for applicants:
a. Accepted applicants are required to provide evidence of a Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Check prior to entering required coursework with children. At the discretion of the practicum agency, students may be declined access to a clinical or work placement based on the contents of the Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Check. If students do not complete the practicum, students will not graduate from the program. The cost of the Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Check is the student's responsibility.
b. Accepted international students require a co-op work permit to complete the practicum requirements for this program. This is mandatory. Students who do not have a co-op work permit will not be allowed to participate in their practicums. It is the student's responsibility to ensure they have the required documentation to study in Canada and a co-op work permit to complete the practicum requirements of this program. c. An international student is a visitor to Canada who is legally permitted to study in Canada in accordance with the Canada Immigration Act. Assessment
To obtain the Programme award, students are required to have an overall pass in each courses of the Programme. The passing mark is 50.
Award
A “Diploma of Early Childhood Education” will be issued by Saskatchewan Polytechnic to those who successfully complete the whole programme.
