Hong Kong Metropolitan University (HKMU) held a National Flag-Raising Ceremony today (1 Jan) on its Jockey Club campus. Council members, senior management, staff and student representatives participated in the ceremony to wish for the prosperity of the country and the continued substantial development of Hong Kong in the coming year.

As the New Year began, HKMU President Prof. Paul Lam Kwan-sing encouraged students to gain a broader understanding of the development of the country, with a view to nurturing a generation of young people with high aspirations and a strong sense of responsibility. “The University has been actively promoting national education,” he said, “and we strive to enhance students' understanding of Chinese culture and their sense of belonging to the country through various activities.” Prof. Lam emphasised that the University will continue to nurture outstanding professionals with a global perspective.

To promote national education, the University raises the national flag on campus every day. It also holds regular flag-raising ceremonies every Monday and on major occasions, such as New Year's Day, HKSAR Establishment Day and National Day, which students and staff are welcome to attend.
