Hong Kong Metropolitan University (HKMU) is currently holding its 30th Congregation to present awards to about 7,000 graduates of its five Schools.

Addressing the ceremony, HKMU President Prof. Paul Lam Kwan-sing congratulated the graduates and shared his views on university education. Prof. Lam mentioned that the meaning of a university degree and the role of higher education institutions have changed dramatically in recent years due to the change in social development. "But, in any case, a good education leads to a more meaningful life if you want it to," he said. He encouraged the graduates to decide what sort of life they want to live, and what sort of career they want to nurture.

In face of the rapidly changing world, Prof. Lam believed that only those who can anticipate future trends, adapt to new circumstances and accept that changes are inevitable and respond appropriately can succeed. He urged the graduates to pursue life-long learning. "Every one of us must be ready to collaborate, communicate and cooperate with people of different cultures, ethnicities, socioeconomic status, political views and life experiences. To achieve the goals, we must continue to acquire new knowledge, and more importantly, make sure our minds remain open," he added.

Twelve sessions of the congregation ceremony are being held from 7 to 20 December, conferring over 5,330 bachelor's and near 1,600 master's degrees.
