The safeguarding work of intangible cultural heritage has received wide attention in recent years. Dr Law Lok-yin, Assistant Professor of the School of Arts and Social Sciences, was successfully granted two research funding of HK$503,800 in 2019 and HK$775,000 in 2020 from the Intangible Cultural Heritage Funding Scheme launched by Intangible Cultural Heritage Office.
Dr Law's recent research topic entitled “From Lingnan Folk Customs to Hong Kong Intangible Heritage: A Process of Theory and Practice” will mainly examine different kinds of intangible cultural heritages, such as performance, ritual, language and ethnic group, in the aspects of Lingnan culture, custom, as well as political and cultural context, in order to understand the relationship and changes between Lingnan culture and the cultural activities of various rural ethnic groups.
