Details:
Dr Walter NG Wing-shui, Research Assistant Professor of the School of Science and Technology, and his team designed an augmented reality teaching application that can be applied in a seamless learning environment. The app can achieve multiple teaching purposes, including enhancing vocabulary learning for learners who learn English as a second language. Learners can use the app to scan real objects in real-life settings to pop up English vocabulary included in the English learning curriculum. The app also provides opportunities for learners to gain retention of the target vocabulary with the combination of picture and text media. Teachers can also make use of the documentation function of the app to keep track of the learners' learning trails to analyze their learning activities for pedagogical decision-making.
With the outstanding design of the app, Dr Ng has won a gold medal in the 2020 International Innovation and Invention Competition, which was organized by the Chinese Innovation and Invention Society, Moscow International Inventions and Innovative Technology Salon «ARCHIMEDES» LLC “InnovExpo” (Moscow, Russia). Eleven countries participated in the competition under the theme of environment, health and intelligent living technology. Dr Ng's work stood out from more than 430 entries.
