To enhance students' interest and understanding on China's historical development, the OUHK jointly organised a Chinese history and culture competition for Hong Kong primary and secondary school students with Bauhinia Culture Holdings Limited, Bauhinia Magazine, Hong Kong Federation of Education Workers, Hong Kong Culture Association, and the Federation of Hong Kong, Macau, Jiangsu of Kunshan.

The competition final cum the award presentation ceremony was held at the OUHK Jockey Club Institute of Healthcare on 28 May. Chief Executive of the HKSAR the Honourable Mrs Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor, Secretary for Education the Honourable Kevin Yeung Yun-hung, member of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress Mr Tam Yiu-chung were invited to attend. Speaking at the ceremony, OUHK President Prof. Paul Lam Kwan-sing said he hoped that through the competition, the students could better understand the extraordinary path China has gone through over the past century and achieved excellence despite all the setbacks along the way. Dean of the School of Education and Languages of the OUHK Prof. Lee Wai-sum took up the role of the academic advisor of the competition while Assistant Professor Dr Yau Yat was one of the panel judges.
