Due to the surging pandemic, Hong Kong students have an early summer holiday this year. In light of this special arrangement, Student Affairs Office of HKMU launched a Kids@HKMU Summer Camp to encourage primary pupils to enrich their knowledge during this early summer break. Students can learn about various topics such as Chinese culture, science, and arts at the 4-week summer camp. The programme is well received with over a thousand participants from 15 primary schools.

The Kids@HKMU Summer Camp kick-started on 28 March with over 100 HKMU students acting as volunteering tutors. They take full responsibility from preparing the teaching materials to managing the online lessons. Ellen Lai, Year 3 student of Bachelor of Education with Honours (Chinese Language Teaching) and Bachelor of Language Studies with Honours (Applied Chinese Language Studies) of School of Education and Languages, is one of the volunteering student tutors. She thinks the programme is a good way for her to give back to society. 'I made use of what I learnt at HKMU when planning for the lesson. For example, I applied the drama education techniques to engage students in class,' she says. Ellen has accumulated invaluable teaching experience from the programme, which is also helpful for her future development.
