Hong Kong Metropolitan University (HKMU) held its first "Government Career Fair 2024", in collaboration with the Civil Service Bureau of the HKSAR Government, on 19 September. The career fair featured more than 25 civil service grades, including civilian grades, professional grades and disciplined services, with participation from 16 government bureaux and departments presenting job opportunities and recruitment arrangements. The event attracted nearly 1,500 students.

Vice President (Research and Institutional Advancement) Prof. Ricky Kwok Yu-kwong expressed his gratitude to all the government policy bureaux and departments that participated in the career fair. He said that the aim of the event was to provide students with an interactive platform to explore and gain an in-depth understanding of the work landscape, recruitment processes and career development opportunities in the civil service and to help them prepare and plan their career paths. "With the increasing opportunities and more diverse career paths provided by the government for university graduates, I am confident that HKMU graduates will have more chances to join the government, serve the citizens of Hong Kong and contribute to society," said Prof. Kwok.

The event received an overwhelming response. Representatives from the civil service shared their work experience with the students, and two recruitment talks were conducted by the Hong Kong Police Force and the Home Affairs Department to address student questions. On-site written tests and interviews were offered for some of the civil service grades. HKMU arranged professional portrait services and consultations on resume preparation, which were popular among students.
