Since its establishment in 1989, HKMU has evolved to meet the changing needs of society and policy development in higher education, developing into a contemporary and comprehensive university. To showcase the University's key milestones over the past 35 years, an exhibition titled "Our HKMU – 35 Years of 'Time, Matters, People, Space'" is currently being held in the University Gallery on the Homantin Main Campus, presenting the achievements of the University, staff and students from multiple perspectives.

The opening ceremony was held on 30 August at the University Gallery, officiated by Council Chairman Ir Dr Conrad Wong Tin-cheung, President Prof. Paul Lam Kwan-sing, Provost Prof. Reggie Kwan Ching-ping, Vice President (Administration and Corporate Development) Prof. Charles Kwong Che-leung, and Vice President (Strategic Initiatives) Prof. Alan Au Kai-ming.

Addressing the ceremony, Ir Dr Wong expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to review the journey of the University and to reminisce about the precious moments through the exhibition together with the attendees. He said that with the support of the faculty, students, alumni and the community, he was confident that HKMU would continue to advance to new heights, riding on its established foundation and success. Prof. Lam praised the efforts of his HKMU colleagues in curating the exhibition within the limited campus space. "By erecting two large screens, they transformed an ordinary corridor into an important venue for hosting the major exhibitions, embodying the spirit of 'Me & U, Beyond Limits' of the University,” he said.

The exhibition is divided into four zones: (1) "Time", which features historical clips illustrating the evolution of the University from the previous Open Learning Institute of Hong Kong to Hong Kong Metropolitan University and documenting the University's development over the past 35 years; (2) "Matters", which displays valuable items since the University's establishment in 1989, including past annual reports, commemorative publications, teaching materials, major awards received by students and the University, and historical documents related to the University's upgrading; (3) "People", which shares the stories of various stakeholders connected to HKMU at its various development stages through video clips, as well as their encouragement and blessings for the 35th Anniversary; and (4) "Space", which presents 3D models of the University's three campuses in Ho Man Tin and the new campus under planning through augmented reality (AR).

The exhibition will continue until 28 January 2025 and is open to students, staff and campus visitors.
