A fresh new start to the new academic year! Hong Kong Metropolitan University (HKMU) President Prof. Paul Lam Kwan-sing, along with Vice President (Research and Institutional Advancement) Prof. Ricky Kwok Yu-kwong and Director of Student Affairs Adele Wan Tik-lam, welcomed students back to campus today for the first school day by greeting and energising them with fresh fruit cups, symbolising the beginning of a “fruitful” academic year.

To help students adapt more quickly to the vibrant campus life, the Student Affairs Office organised a series of activities, including a photo booth, featuring a “cartoon President Lam”, designed by a student, for instant photos, and a number of student performances.

At the Inauguration Ceremony, held last week for the 2024/25 academic year, Prof. Lam and senior management of the University warmly welcomed new students to HKMU, wishing them a fulfilling and enjoyable learning journey. In his speech, Prof. Lam emphasised that this year marked HKMU's 35th anniversary, and highlighted numerous extraordinary developments and achievements, while encouraging new students to set clear goals to prepare for the new academic year.

This year, the number of applications received through the Joint University Programmes Admissions System and direct admissions, as well as applications with the results of the Nationwide Unified Examination for Admissions to General Universities and College (Gaokao), increased, reflecting the growing popularity of the University's programmes. “To support the University's continuous development, we established student accommodation, 'MU88', in Hung Hom to provide students with a richer learning experience and help promote their all-round development,” said Prof. Lam.

In view of the increasingly international atmosphere and the rising number of non-local students on campus, the University will help facilitate students' integration into campus life. Additionally, earlier this year, HKMU announced the introduction of a student mental health enhancement scheme for first-year students. It aims to enhance their awareness and understanding of mental health and provide further education on psychological well-being to help them develop a healthy and resilient mindset as they embark on their university journey.
