 (Calling for applications) Hong Kong Association of University Women Undergraduate and Postgraduate Scholarships 2025 06-OCT-2025

Objective

Hong Kong Association of University Women (HKAUW) established the HKAUW Undergraduate Scholarships aiming at recognising and encouraging female students with exceptional academic attainments and active involvement in community service; and the HKAUW Postgraduate Scholarships aiming at recognising and encouraging female postgraduates who conduct high quality original research that are of significant value to our society and to the body of knowledge. 

 

Eligibility

HKAUW Undergraduate Scholarships

  • Local or non-local full-time female students, EXCEPT students in their first and final year of study [i.e. freshmen and final-year students are ineligible]
  • CGPA of not less than 3.0*
  • A student who has obtained “Fail” grade (including but not limited to University’s Core Values Modules), or has been granted “deferment of an examination” in the assessment year or term concerned will not be considered for nomination.*
  • Have outstanding academic achievements, and demonstrate current participation and active involvement in community service
  • TWO recommendation letters: one from applicant’s current academic supervisor (recommended by the head of department or School is much preferred), and one from the community/voluntary service organisation the applicant is involved in
  • Awardees are required to serve the community for at least half a year AFTER they receive the scholarship which may include participating in community services project organised by HKAUW.

 

HKAUW Postgraduate Scholarships

  • Local or non-local full-time female students enrolled in taught postgraduate or research postgraduate programmes
  • CGPA of not less than 3.0*, and/or outstanding research progress and achievements
  • A student who has obtained “Fail” grade (including but not limited to University’s Core Values Modules), or has been granted “deferment of an examination” in the assessment year or term concerned will not be considered for nomination.*
  • Have outstanding academic achievements in applicant’s chosen disciplines through research and practice, personal aspirations and qualities
  • Demonstrate leadership, team spirit and active involvement in community service, have contributions in applicant’s chosen disciplines, including a global outlook and the promotion of women’s status
  • TWO recommendation letters: one from applicant’s current academic supervisor (recommended by the head of department or School is much preferred), and one from the community/voluntary service organisation the applicant is involved in
  • Awardees are required to complete a minimum of 40 hours of quality community service within six months of receiving the scholarship. Such service projects must be mutually agreed on by the scholarship recipients and HKAUW in advance

 

*Records of CGPA and grades would be based on the official transcript of studies generated by the University at the time of scholarship assessment.

 

Requirements for Shortlisted Nominees

After the internal selection panel conducts its review in late October 2025, shortlisted nominees must register as either an Undergraduate Member (for HKAUW Undergraduate Scholarships) or a Full Member (for HKAUW Postgraduate Scholarships) of HKAUW. The annual fee is HK$150 for Undergraduate Members and HK$300 for Full Members, due by early November 2025. Please note that membership registration is mandatory for nominees, and the registration fee is non-refundable, regardless of the nomination outcome. Applicants should wait for notification from the Scholarships Team of the HKMU SAO before registering for membership.

 

Amount per Award

HK$5,000 (undergraduate awardee) / HK$20,000 (postgraduate awardee)

[Note: 25% of the Awards, namely HK$1,250 (for Undergraduate Scholarships) / HK$5,000 (for Postgraduate Scholarships) will be retained by HKAUW and awarded to the recipients subsequent to receipt of written proof of community services between January and August 2026 from the recipients concerned.]

 

Number of Award

  • No fixed quota, open to all local institutions to compete for around 8 Undergraduate Scholarships and 4 Postgraduate Scholarships (according to the figures in 2024/25)
  • The University will nominate up to 2 candidates for the Undergraduate Scholarships and up to 5 candidates for the Postgraduate Scholarships

Application Details

  • Download and upload the application form and supporting documents via the student portal, MyHKMU
  • TWO recommendation letters: one from applicant’s current academic supervisor (recommended by the head of department or School is much preferred), and one from the community/voluntary service organisation the applicant is involved in
  • The recommendation letters are one of the required supporting documents that should be submitted together with the application form online by the deadline
  • Late application will not be considered

 

Remarks

  • Shortlisted candidates will be notified via HKMU email.
  • Eligible applicants are not guaranteed to be offered awards.
  • Preference will be given to applicants who have never received the award before.
