Referral System for Student Counselling Service

Students may encounter difficulties that go beyond their own experience of academic staff may sometimes feel uncomfortable helping a student with some issues.

Staff who think that the student might benefit from professional counselling are encouraged to refer these issues to our Student Counsellors via the SAO Referral System.

Please read the following important notes before you submit your referral:

1. The referral information will be handled by SAO Student Counsellors in strict confidentiality.
2. As counselling information constitutes personal information and privacy of the referred student, Student Counsellors will not disclose it to anyone, including the referrer, without the consent of the student.
3. Getting the consent of the student before referring him/her to counselling service would facilitate the Student Counsellor's reaching out to the student and may reduce the negative reactions the student might have. Please refer to the guide on getting the consent of referral.
4. Our counsellors may contact you for more information for better support to the student.
