Biography
I am a trained Statistician and an Honorary Professor at the Department of Statistics & Actuarial Science of the University of Hong Kong. My main research area includes Survival Analysis, Biostatistics, Statistical Epidemiology and Public Health. On the theoretical or methodological side, I am interested in developing new statistical models and methods for the analysis of survival data (univariate or complex multivariate) with various censoring mechanisms (right censored, grouped or discrete survival data, current status data, interval-censored data, or more generally data with incomplete observations like survival data with a cure fraction). Analysis of survival data has been a very interesting and challenging area. I have publications in some high standard international referred journals like Journal of the American Statistical Association, Biometrika, Biometrics, Statistical Methods in Medical Research and Statistics in Medicine.
My other major research activity is on Medical Statistics. To distinguish myself as a Biostatistician working in the area of Medical Statistics, I have established a good rapport with some researchers from the field of Medicine, and have been involved in various medical research projects in Family Medicine, Public Health, Gastroenterology, Cardiology, Osteoporosis, Endocrinology, Obstetrics, Epidemiology, Health Economics and Dental Research. My special role is to provide statistical advice in the planning, design and data analysis of some controlled clinical trials and/or questionnaires designs. My goal is to advocate and promote the appropriate and efficient use of statistical methods so that the research projects can be conducted at the highest scientific standard, and to provide valid and timely answers to issues affecting health. I consider this type of multidisciplinary research very important, and I look forward to learning more from the medical researchers and being inspired by the data sets so as to develop more useful statistical models and methods to answer important clinical problems that affect health.
Another area of interest is statistical epidemiology with particular interest in infectious disease and estimation of vaccine efficacy. I have been collaborating with researchers from the Center for Quantitative Medicine of Duke-NUS Medical School, Singapore in this area for over 10 years. I am an Adjunct Associate Professor, an honorary appointment of the Center since 2018, in view of my contribution to some projects in this area.
