Inspirational Teaching Awards

President's Awards for Excellence in Inspirational Teaching

To take our teaching quality to a new height, one major driver is to properly recognize teachers' contributions. In order to recognize and reward both full-time and part-time teaching staff who are making inspirational learning experience for students and / or providing teaching inspiration for fellow colleagues, the President's Awards for Excellence in Inspirational Teaching will be established to replace the existing President’s Awards for Teaching Excellence. Candidates will submit their entry in the form of a teaching e-Portfolio.

Aims of the Awards

	Promoting the advancement of learning and teaching which will facilitate the university to achieve its strategic goals in the academic aspects;(Ref: https://www-uat.hkmu.edu.hk/about-hkmu/strategic-plan/)
	Encouraging evidence-based teaching practices; and
	Helping teaching staff to build up a 'Teaching e-Portfolio', which will also facilitate the creation of professional CV and records for job promotion¹ .
¹Exceptional portfolios will be nominated to compete for world-renowned awards such as the Reimagine Education Awards (http://www.reimagine-education.com) organized by the QS.

What are the characteristics of an inspirational teaching staff member?

	Proficient in conducting engaging lessons, stimulating students' thinking, and motivating students in active learning, leading to students' growth in academic competency.
	Inspirational teaching usually results from proactive self-evaluations of teaching, persistent pushing of improvement in teaching skills, frequent exchanging of good practices with peers, etc.
	An inspirational teacher would then serve as a role model for others in striving for enhancement of teaching quality.

The top finalists and winners will be selected through three phases of review as follows:

Phase 1: Shortlisting of candidates per category

Phase 2: Selection of finalists per category

Phase 3: Decision of the winner and top finalists per category

Award Categories

Professional teaching
(for full-time academic staff)

FT academic staff
at least 4 years of FT teaching experience at post-secondary (e.g. AD or HD), undergraduate and/or postgraduate levels.

Early career teaching
(for full-time academic staff)

FT academic staff
1-3 years of FT teaching experience at post-secondary (e.g. AD or HD), undergraduate and/or postgraduate levels.

Part-time teaching
(for part-time teaching staff)

PT teaching staff
Served HKMU/LiPACE on a PT basis for around 2-3 years at post-secondary (e.g. AD or HD), undergraduate and/or postgraduate levels.
in-service part-time academic staff at HKMU/LiPACE in the academic year they submit the award entry.
