The Public Policy Research Funding Scheme from the Policy Innovation and Co-ordination Office is one of the two government subsidized funding schemes dedicated to fostering and supporting public policy research in Hong Kong.
Dr Shum Chun-tat, Research Assistant Professor of the School of Arts and Social Sciences, was successfully granted a research funding of HK$357,159 to conduct a 12-month research project entitled “Towards a multicultural active ageing policy: A qualitative study of quality of life among South Asian older adults in Hong Kong”. The project will examine the quality of life among South Asian older adults in Hong Kong, including Indian, Pakistani, and Nepalese. Specifically, it will explore how their family obligations, ethnic communities, and return migration aspirations may produce life satisfaction and expectations that are different from those of ethnic Chinese older adults. The project will have implications on the active aging policy development and implementation in Hong Kong.
