Year 5 nursing student Lau Chun-wai stood out among many runners in the 21km Half Marathon of the Hong Kong Streetathon held on 17 December and won the championship. Chun-wai is passionate about sports and is currently the HKMU Men's Cross Country Team captain. He recently joined the 5km Run of the UNICEF Charity Run 2023 and attained the 2nd runner-up. He is planning to run a full marathon in Japan next year.
The Hong Kong Streetathon has been organised by the social enterprise RunOurCity since 2014 as an annual flagship contest. This year's contest saw the first resumption of the half marathon after the pandemic and the addition of the full marathon. The route covered the two core business districts of Central and Kowloon East, taking runners through four major thoroughfares: the Central–Wan Chai Bypass, the Eastern Harbor Crossing, the Cross Bay Link and the Tseung Kwan O–Lam Tin Tunnel.
