Animation and visual effects student Jonathan Chen Kam-san took part in the 28th Letter/Picture to Mt.Fuji Contest organised by the Fujinomiya-shi Government Office and the Fujinomiya-shi Board of Education of Japan. His magnificent art piece Torii & Fuji stood out and won the Grand Prize of the Painting/Drawing category in the High School Students and Adults group.
Jonathan portrays a majestic Mount Fuji which reveals itself through a huge red torii, accompanied by soft sunshine and pink cherry blossoms. The judges speak highly of his painting, commending it as “perfect in terms of proportion, colours, and brightness and darkness, creating the impression of experiencing the warmth of spring right in the scene.”
The Letter/Picture to Mt.Fuji Contest is one of the signature annual events to promote the culture and tourism of Fujinomiya city in Japan. The theme of the competition is “The Beauty of Mount Fuji”, aiming to call on efforts to retain the natural beauty and historical value of Mount Fuji through writing and painting. Held since 1996, the painting competition has received a total of 139,961 works from people aged 3 to 86 from around the world.
