Details:
Students and a graduate from the Master of Arts in Creative Writing programme received accolades in the City Literary Awards 2024, organised by the Department of Chinese and History of City University of Hong Kong. Among them, Wu Lianxin won the Third Prize in Prose (Tertiary Group) with her work 《住在殯儀館附近的三個月》 (“Living Near Funeral Homes for Three Months”). The piece is based on her experience renting a flat on her arrival in Hong Kong that happened to be in the vicinity of funeral homes. In the process, she met a friendly older lady, who gave her a lot of help. This experience changed her perception of funeral homes and death, and at the same time gave her a taste of the warmth and kindness of people in Hong Kong.
Chen Xuening received a Recommendation Award in Fiction (Tertiary Group) with her short story《魚卦》 (“Hexagram of Fish”), and Huang Chuan and Fan Qingqi each received the Recommendation Award in Poetry (Tertiary Group) for their poems《雪山行紀(組詩)》 (“Walking the Snowy Mountains (serial poem)”) and 《維多利亞港的遊魚》(“Fish in Victoria Harbour”), respectively.
The aims of the City Literary Awards are to promote literary writing among secondary and tertiary students, enhance their writing skills and encourage them to observe and savour city life in Hong Kong.
