Fung Chun-hei, a student in the Chinese Language and Literature distance-learning programme, achieved both first and second runner-up positions in the Best News Writing (Chinese) category in the Hong Kong News Awards 2024, organised by the Newspaper Society of Hong Kong.
Chun-hei's second-place article, published in the Hong Kong Commercial Daily on 23 November 2024, tells the story of a traditional photo studio in the local community. His third-place work, featured in the same publication on 8 December 2024, describes the life and work of a local umbrella repairman.
The Newspaper Society of Hong Kong was established in 1954 to foster cooperation among practitioners in the news industry and to promote the development of the sector. Over the years, 14 newspapers have joined the Society, which hosts the annual “Hong Kong Best News Awards” to recognise outstanding performance and achievements in the news industry.
