Electronic Library Project

The $40 million OUHK Electronic Library project is sponsored by The Croucher Foundation, the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust and the Hong Kong Government. The project aims at providing users with easy access over the Internet to various electronic resources including electronic journals, databases, electronic books, selected free Internet resources, in-house digitized web resources like examination papers and library catalogues. It also provides a channel for users to convey their requests to the Library for interlibrary loans, enquiries and suggestions. It can be accessed round the clock every day anywhere from a PC with Internet connectivity. The project was completed in 2000 and won the Stockholm Challenge Award conferred by the European Commission and the City of Stockholm in the same year.

The project is currently under regular maintenance and ongoing updates. In the past few years, remote access channels, search engine and a number of electronic services under the E-Library have been updated using the latest technology. The electronic collection in the E-Library has also been expanded to support the academic programmes. This ongoing development maintains the service performance of the E-Library as a resource center with easy access to support the study, learning, research and development activities in the OUHK.
